“The Floor” is back for Season 6 with a field unlike any the Fox competition has assembled before. Rob Lowe returns as host, but this time all 100 contestants enter with something in common: they are champions, title holders, record setters, or accomplished competitors in their respective fields. Their ultimate goal remains taking control of the Floor and winning the $250,000 grand prize, but Season 6 introduces another strategic wrinkle called the Power Shot.
The new advantage is particularly important because “The Floor” is not simply about answering more questions correctly than everyone else. Contestants also have to decide when to keep playing, when to protect their territory, and how aggressively to pursue the $20,000 prize awarded during the season.

How Does The Floor Season 6 Work?
Season 6 begins with 100 contestants occupying individual spaces on a 10-by-10 Floor. Each space is associated with a trivia category. When the Randomizer selects a challenger, that contestant chooses an adjacent opponent and competes against them in the opponent’s category.
The duel is a timed head-to-head trivia contest. The winner takes over the loser’s territory, while the losing contestant leaves the competition. The winner then faces an important decision: continue playing and challenge another neighboring contestant, or return to the Floor and allow another challenger to be selected.
That choice creates much of the strategy. Continuing to play can quickly build a large territory, but every additional duel also creates another opportunity to lose everything accumulated so far.
What Is the Power Shot in The Floor Season 6?
The Power Shot is the major new advantage introduced for Season 6. A contestant who wins three duels earns the ability to effectively become the show’s “human randomizer.”
Normally, when a contestant returns to the Floor rather than continuing their run, the Randomizer determines who gets the next opportunity to play. With the Power Shot, the player holding the advantage can instead choose who will be selected. That makes the Power Shot considerably more strategic than it may initially appear.
Showrunner Anthony Carbone explained that a contestant leading the race for the episode’s $20,000 could use the advantage to send play toward another part of the board. Instead of risking being selected themselves, they could choose someone far away and potentially protect their territory while the episode moves closer to its conclusion.
There is another important difference. The normal Randomizer selects among contestants who have not yet played, while the Power Shot can be used to select anybody. That opens up possibilities beyond simply protecting the player who earned it.
How Does the $20,000 Prize Work?
The $20,000 prize is separate from the season’s $250,000 grand prize.
During the season, the contestant controlling the most territory at the end of an episode earns $20,000. That means a player does not necessarily need to survive until the finale to leave “The Floor” with prize money.
It also creates a short-term objective alongside the larger competition. A contestant with substantial territory has to decide whether another duel is worth the risk. Winning could increase their lead for $20,000, while losing would remove them from the game entirely.
The Power Shot adds another option to that decision. A contestant who has already built enough territory may be able to influence who plays next rather than putting their own position at immediate risk.
Is the Power Shot Different From the Time Boost and Category Steal?
Yes. The Power Shot joins other advantages that have become part of “The Floor,” including the Time Boost and Category Steal. Rob Lowe confirmed ahead of Season 6 that the Power Shot would join those existing powers rather than simply changing the basic format of the competition.
Its purpose is different because it affects who gets to play next. Rather than directly helping someone answer questions during a duel, the Power Shot gives its holder influence over the movement of the game itself.
That could make timing especially important. Using it simply because it is available may not always be the best move. Holding it until a player has significant territory, or until another contestant becomes a strategic concern, could make the advantage much more valuable.
How Do You Win The Floor Season 6?
Despite the new advantage, the ultimate objective has not changed. Contestants expand their territory by winning duels, and the competition eventually produces one player who takes control of the Floor and wins $250,000.
Season 6 therefore gives contestants several things to think about at once. They can chase territory, pursue the episode’s $20,000, earn advantages, or play more cautiously with the larger $250,000 goal in mind.
The Power Shot does not guarantee any of those prizes. What it does provide is something potentially just as useful on “The Floor”: greater control over what happens next.
