The End of Oak Street Filming Locations: Where the Dinosaur Thriller Was Shot

David Robert Mitchell’s The End of Oak Street begins with an aggressively ordinary American neighborhood. Greg and Denise Platt are raising their children, Audrey and Brian, in the kind of quiet suburb where garages, driveways and trimmed lawns hardly seem capable of hiding anything extraordinary. Then a mysterious cosmic event tears Oak Street away from the rest of the world and deposits the entire neighborhood somewhere unknown, where prehistoric creatures are suddenly part of the local wildlife. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor lead the Platt family, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery playing their children. Warner Bros. is releasing the film in theaters and IMAX on August 14, 2026.

That contrast between familiar suburbia and impossible danger is central to Mitchell’s film, and the locations had to sell the ordinary world before the dinosaurs could disrupt it. The End of Oak Street, previously known as Flowervale Street, was filmed primarily in Atlanta, Georgia, with studio work at Electric Owl Studios. Production listings also identify London, England, as part of the shoot. Principal photography took place during spring 2024.

Where was The End of Oak Street Filmed?

Atlanta Becomes Oak Street

Atlanta supplied the suburban environment audiences see before and after Oak Street’s transformation. Georgia production reporting confirmed that Hathaway was in the state shooting the movie in March 2024, when the project was still being called Flowervale Street. During filming, the production also operated under the code name Neighbors, an appropriately inconspicuous label for a movie whose entire premise revolves around the people living next door.

Rather than relying on one constructed street for every exterior, the filmmakers appear to have pieced together Oak Street from several residential roads in southwest Atlanta. Recent scene matching has identified Westwood Avenue SW, Erin Avenue SW, Dover Boulevard SW and Howell Drive SW among the streets visible in the film.

The selection is particularly effective for a movie set in the early 1980s. These neighborhoods contain mature trees, detached houses, broad lawns and street layouts that can be dressed for the period without the visual clutter of newer developments.

Westwood Avenue SW

Westwood Avenue SW appears in one of the movie’s most important neighborhood sequences, when the Platt family begins to understand that something fundamental has happened to their world. Location database Sceen-it matched the sequence to the Atlanta street using footage released by Warner Bros.

It is exactly the kind of location Mitchell wanted. The director told Entertainment Weekly that the idea for the movie originated while he was walking through an ordinary Michigan neighborhood and suddenly imagined a dinosaur appearing beside the garages, garbage cans and fences. His goal was to collide something fantastical with an unremarkable middle-class suburb.

Westwood’s residential character helps maintain that contrast. The location is convincing because nothing about it initially looks designed for science fiction.

Erin Avenue SW

Erin Avenue SW, near Manford Road in Atlanta’s Capitol View Manor area, is another recognizable piece of Oak Street. Local viewers began identifying the street after Warner Bros. released footage from the film, with residents matching houses and road features to the real neighborhood.

Sceen-it identifies Erin Avenue as the location for footage of Denise and Greg driving through their neighborhood. That makes the road part of the film’s everyday suburban geography rather than merely an anonymous background glimpsed during an action sequence.

Dover Boulevard and Howell Drive

Additional Oak Street material was filmed around Dover Boulevard SW and Howell Drive SW. Dover is used for scenes establishing the neighborhood before everything goes wrong, while Howell Drive appears when Greg and Denise move through the area trying to understand what has happened.

These individual streets effectively become pieces of one fictional place. Editing allows the Platts to drive from one Atlanta road into another while the audience accepts all of them as Oak Street.

That approach also gives the production considerably more freedom than building every outdoor location on a backlot. Real trees, houses, pavement and yards give the dinosaurs something recognizable to invade. Mitchell has said the movie’s major set pieces were conceived around the unsettling idea of prehistoric animals suddenly moving through someone’s home and neighborhood.

Electric Owl Studios

A major production base was Electric Owl Studios at 3963 Redan Road in DeKalb County, near Decatur. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution later confirmed that Flowervale Street was among the productions hosted by the facility, while IMDb also specifically lists Electric Owl as a filming location.

Electric Owl opened in 2023 and contains six purpose-built soundstages. Its current specifications include roughly 140,000 square feet of stage space, with individual stages ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 square feet and 40-foot clear heights.

Those facilities would have been particularly useful for a film requiring controlled interaction between practical environments and extensive visual effects. Industrial Light & Magic worked on the movie’s visual effects, with Jay Cooper serving as production VFX supervisor.

The production has not publicly published a set-by-set breakdown showing which interiors were constructed at Electric Owl, so it would be speculative to assign the Platt house or another specific room to an individual soundstage.

Was The End of Oak Street Filmed in London?

Production databases also list London, England, alongside Atlanta, with principal photography recorded between March 22 and June 4, 2024.

Unlike the Atlanta portion, however, specific London streets, buildings or studios have not been reliably disclosed. There is also far stronger public documentation connecting the recognizable Oak Street neighborhood to Georgia. London should therefore be included as a production location without inventing an exact studio or claiming that a particular British landmark appears in the film.

Some newer location articles have additionally listed New Orleans, but I could not find sufficiently strong production reporting to verify Louisiana as part of the original principal shoot. The best-supported location record remains Atlanta and Electric Owl Studios, with London included in established production listings.

When Was The End of Oak Street Filmed?

The Georgia Film Office had Flowervale Street active by March 2024, with local reporting initially pointing to a March start. Filming was visibly underway in Atlanta in early April, when Hathaway and McGregor were photographed working together. Production records place the overall principal photography period from March 22 to June 4, 2024.

The project then spent a lengthy period in post-production before receiving its final title. Warner Bros. originally promoted it as Flowervale Street, but by March 2026 the film had officially become The End of Oak Street.

Atlanta ultimately provides the film with something computer-generated spectacle cannot create by itself: normality. Westwood Avenue, Erin Avenue, Dover Boulevard and Howell Drive look like places where families take out the trash, children ride bicycles and neighbors recognize one another’s cars. That ordinariness is precisely what makes Mitchell’s premise work. Dinosaurs are impressive almost anywhere. A dinosaur standing at the end of your own street is another matter entirely.
