Spoiler warning: This piece covers the complete plot of “Life 2.0,” Season 1 Episode 6 of Sweetpea, including the final scene.

Rhiannon Lewis (Ella Purnell) enters the Sweetpea Season 1 finale with blood on her hands and exits it with more. In “Life 2.0,” the sixth episode of the Sky Atlantic and Starz series, she and Julia Blenkingsopp (Nicôle Lecky) successfully transfer blame for the murders onto the late Marcus Rebac (Dino Kelly) and walk free from police questioning. That freedom does not hold. Before the episode ends, Rhiannon kills again, her closest ally vanishes, and her sister Seren (Alexandra Dowling) walks through the front door to find her kneeling over a dying man.

How Rhiannon and Julia Walk Free

Both women give matching accounts to separate detectives: Marcus kidnapped Julia, committed the murders the Carnsham Gazette had been covering, and died violently during a confrontation that police had actually witnessed at the end of Episode 5. The account is plausible because it fits the forensic facts at the scene. Marcus is dead and cannot contest it. Both women are released.

Detective Marina Farrar (Leah Harvey), who has been building her suspicions across the series, is not persuaded. According to the Wikipedia episode summary, Marina suspects Rhiannon but is reprimanded by her superiors, who find insufficient grounds to hold either woman. The department moves on. Marina does not.

What Marina Farrar Finds

Marina finds footage placing Rhiannon at the scene of one of her crimes, but she cannot use it because she obtained it by breaking into Rhiannon’s home without a warrant. The Screen Rant recap of the episode describes the evidence as CCTV footage. It confirms Marina’s theory and removes any official means of acting on it.

Marina then confronts Rhiannon outside of the legal process. Per the Screen Rant recap, she tells Rhiannon she will be “waiting for her to kill again.” That exchange frames Marina as someone who understands she is playing a longer game than her superiors want to run.

Craig (Jon Pointing), an employee at Tommy’s Transformations, the business connected to Rhiannon’s deceased father and the site where Julia’s car was located in Episode 5, also uses his knowledge as leverage. He threatens to expose Rhiannon’s presence there unless she signs over the family business, according to the Screen Rant recap and Wikipedia’s episode summary.

Why Rhiannon Kills AJ Pierce

Rhiannon kills AJ because he recognizes the murder weapon, refuses to accept her justification, and tries to leave. AJ Pierce (Calam Lynch), a junior reporter at the Gazette, learns the truth not from Marina or Craig but through a police contact who sends him a photograph of the murder weapon, a pocketknife he recognizes as Rhiannon’s. He goes to her, not to the police.

She does not deny it. She tells him her victims got what they deserved. AJ calls her “a monster” and tries to leave, per the Screen Rant recap of the episode. The episode then shows her stabbing him repeatedly. The Collider recap describes AJ bleeding out on the kitchen floor, though it notes his death is not fully confirmed on screen.

The series has established across Season 1 that Rhiannon kills when she believes someone is about to expose her. AJ’s declaration and his decision to walk out fit that pattern exactly. His prior closeness to Rhiannon, shown across the season, gave him something none of her other targets had, the episode implies: a credible opening to talk her out of it. That made him, by her logic, the most dangerous person in the episode.

What Julia Does Before She Disappears

Julia agrees to give a press interview about her kidnapping, stops when the account reaches her time in captivity, and then goes silent, per the Screen Rant recap. She stops answering Rhiannon’s calls.

Rhiannon subsequently receives a British Airways bill, according to the same recap, implying Julia used Rhiannon’s credit card to book a flight and left the country. Where Julia goes is not confirmed. Her knowledge of Rhiannon’s crimes is considerable, and one reading is that she does not believe reporting to police will keep her safe from Rhiannon.

What Seren’s Arrival at the End Means

Seren’s arrival means the last person close to Rhiannon who did not know the truth now does. Rhiannon’s sister has appeared in Season 1 primarily as a practical, somewhat detached presence, managing the sale of the Lewis family home while maintaining distance from the more chaotic parts of Rhiannon’s life. Walking through the door to find Rhiannon holding a dying AJ ends that distance.

Sweetpea is adapted from C.J. Skuse’s 2017 novel by creator and lead writer Kirstie Swain, with Episode 6 written by Krissie Ducker. All six episodes are directed by Ella Jones, and the series was filmed in Southend-on-Sea and the Watford area between November and December 2023. Sky and Starz renewed it for a second season in December 2024, according to the Wikipedia article on the series.

By the time Seren walks in, Marina knows what Rhiannon is but cannot prove it legally. Craig knows and is extracting payment for silence. Julia knows and has fled the country. Seren now has seen something she cannot un-see. The season ends not with a capture but with Rhiannon more exposed than she has ever been, her second life collapsing one witness at a time.
