Silo Season 3’s Lukas and Patrick Twist Isn’t What It First Seems

The Algorithm seems to have won when Lukas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy are attacked almost immediately after leaving Silo 18 in Silo Season 3 Episode 7, “Radio.” Gunfire cuts off their mission, communication disappears, and Camille is subsequently told that the two men have been “neutralized.” Patrick, however, is not dead, at least based on the episode’s final radio exchange. He contacts Juliette’s group from Silo 17, directly contradicting what the Algorithm reported. Lukas’s fate is less certain because the episode does not give him the same clear confirmation. There is also currently no official announcement that Avi Nash or Rick Gomez has left the Apple TV series.

That distinction matters because Episode 7 deliberately bundles the two men together during the attack and then separates what viewers actually know about them afterward. Patrick’s return on the radio turns one apparent death into a fakeout before the episode even finishes. Lukas remains the real cliffhanger.

Spoiler Alert

What Happens to Lukas and Patrick Outside Silo 18?

Lukas and Patrick successfully survive their exit from Silo 18 before something attacks them on the surface. Juliette sends the pair toward Silo 17 because she needs information that can help disable the Safeguard threatening everyone back home. Their suits get them through the cleaning process, allowing both men to experience the real outside world instead of dying within sight of the silo camera like so many cleaners before Juliette changed what everyone believed was possible.

The contrast between them outside is one of the episode’s quieter character payoffs. Patrick, who once believed the forbidden footage showing a green world, is confronted with a dead landscape that destroys his old expectations. Lukas reacts very differently because he has spent years studying the mysterious lights visible on the cafeteria screen. Seeing the actual night sky and stars with his own eyes gives him a brief moment of wonder before the mission becomes violent.

A buzzing or whizzing sound suddenly surrounds them, followed by sustained gunfire. The episode does not clearly identify the attackers onscreen, so calling them drones is still an interpretation rather than a confirmed explanation. More importantly, viewers never see either man’s body after the shooting, leaving the Algorithm’s later claim as the only immediate evidence that they have been killed.

Is Patrick Kennedy Really Dead?

No, Patrick appears to survive the attack and reach Silo 17. Late in the episode, Juliette and her allies receive a radio transmission after they have already accepted the possibility that the mission failed. Juliette recognizes Patrick, and the communication indicates that someone from their scouting team has successfully reached Silo 17 and made contact from inside.

That single transmission changes the situation considerably. Juliette’s backup plan involves taking a much more dangerous approach to stopping the Safeguard, but hearing from Patrick gives her a reason to halt that effort. If the scouting mission is still functioning, there is no need to immediately take a gamble that could endanger large numbers of people inside Silo 18.

Could the transmission eventually be revealed as another deception? Technically, Silo has given viewers plenty of reasons to distrust information controlled by the system, and the Algorithm is demonstrably willing to lie. Episode 7, however, provides no direct evidence that it can perfectly impersonate Patrick’s voice or fabricate this particular exchange, so treating the transmission as fake would currently be fan theory rather than the strongest reading of the scene.

What About Lukas Kyle?

Lukas is not confirmed dead, but his survival is more ambiguous than Patrick’s. The final communication establishes Patrick’s presence, yet it does not provide the same unmistakable proof that Lukas is standing beside him. That leaves open several possibilities, including Lukas reaching Silo 17 injured, being separated from Patrick during the attack, or failing to survive the shooting altogether.

The story gives viewers good reason to resist declaring him dead too quickly. Lukas has already disappeared from the narrative once during Season 3 after being presumed dead or missing, only to reappear when Juliette desperately needs help. Episode 7 once again withholds a body and cuts away at the precise moment when a definitive answer would normally be shown.

There is also considerable unfinished story attached to Lukas. His knowledge of the Safeguard, the Algorithm and the secrets beneath the silo makes him more than an expendable member of Juliette’s scouting party. That does not grant him plot armor, but killing him without confirming the death would be an unusually vague conclusion for a character whose discoveries have repeatedly driven the show’s central mystery.

Why Does the Algorithm Say They Were “Neutralized”?

The most immediate implication is that the Algorithm believes its attempt to stop Lukas and Patrick succeeded, but Episode 7 proves that its information is not infallible. Before their departure, the system already wants the mission sabotaged. Lukas is especially dangerous because of what he knows about the Safeguard, while Patrick has spent years moving forbidden information and relics through networks the authorities cannot completely control.

Patrick’s radio transmission therefore exposes an important weakness. The Algorithm can issue orders, manipulate Camille and make calculations about threats, but it does not necessarily possess perfect knowledge of everything happening outside Silo 18. Whether the attack was controlled directly by the same force or triggered through another security mechanism remains less clear, but the system clearly reaches the wrong conclusion about Patrick.

That mistake could matter well beyond the survival of two characters. Juliette has spent much of Season 3 fighting an enemy that presents itself as overwhelmingly informed and capable of predicting human behavior. If Lukas and Patrick can operate outside its assumptions while officially being considered dead, the mistake gives Juliette something she badly needs: people the system may no longer be accurately tracking.

Are Avi Nash and Rick Gomez Leaving Silo?

There is currently no official confirmation that either Avi Nash or Rick Gomez is leaving the series because of Episode 7. Apple continues to list Nash and Gomez among Silo’s cast, with Nash playing Lukas Kyle and Gomez playing Patrick Kennedy. Neither Apple nor the actors has announced an Episode 7 departure tied to the apparent attack.

Rick Gomez’s situation is the easier one to assess because Patrick communicates after the supposed death scene. Unless the series introduces another twist around that transmission, Episode 7 itself gives Gomez’s character an immediate route back into the story. Patrick has reached the exact location Juliette needs investigated, which makes his mission more relevant rather than complete.

Avi Nash’s future is deliberately harder to read. The episode can withhold Lukas for another chapter and make Patrick explain what happened, or Lukas could emerge later after surviving the attack. What cannot responsibly be said yet is that Nash has left Silo, because no confirmed cast announcement or statement supports that conclusion.

Lukas and Patrick’s Mission Has Become More Important, Not Less

The apparent deaths initially seem designed to prove that the Algorithm can reach anyone Juliette sends outside. By the end of “Radio,” the opposite possibility has emerged. Patrick has apparently crossed into Silo 17 despite the system declaring the mission finished, while Lukas remains somewhere between presumed dead and potentially hidden from the very intelligence trying to eliminate him.

That makes Patrick’s survival more than a routine fakeout. Juliette needs Silo 17 because Solo knows how the Safeguard was stopped there, and her entire strategy for saving Silo 18 depends on turning that knowledge into something practical. Having even one scout successfully reach the neighboring silo keeps that plan alive.

For now, then, Patrick Kennedy should be considered alive, while Lukas Kyle’s condition remains unconfirmed rather than definitively dead. Rick Gomez consequently has no clear exit from the story, and there is no official evidence that Avi Nash has departed either. Silo may still have a harsher answer waiting for Lukas, but Episode 7 deliberately stops short of giving viewers one.
