Daniel and Helen leave “Gray Goo” having made their position clear. After learning why Per Stensen is building 50 underground silos, Helen rejects his offer to join the project, and Daniel chooses to leave with her rather than accept a place on Stensen’s team. That makes the setup for Silo Season 3 Episode 9 especially curious, because Apple says Daniel and Helen will attend a “special event,” while promotional material appears to show them visiting the silo project. The series has not yet confirmed what changes their minds, but a time jump and a major change in their personal lives look increasingly possible.
Daniel and Helen refused Stensen in Episode 8
Their refusal was not casual. Helen is disturbed by the idea of deliberately preparing a selected group of people to live underground while the rest of humanity remains outside, and she openly rejects the future Stensen is offering. Daniel reaches the same conclusion and leaves with Helen, even though Stensen believes Daniel’s engineering skills could be valuable to the project.
Their decision also becomes a romantic turning point. Daniel tells Helen he would rather face the future with her than accept the protected life Stensen is offering, and the two finally kiss before leaving. Episode 8 therefore ends with them choosing each other and rejecting the silos at the same time.
So why would they visit Silo 18?
That is still unknown before Episode 9. Apple has only confirmed that Daniel and Helen attend a “special event,” without identifying the location or explaining why they are there. However, promotional material discussed by viewers appears to show Daniel taking Helen through part of the silo project, which would be difficult to reconcile with their Episode 8 rejection unless some time has passed.
A simple explanation is that visiting the project is not the same as agreeing to live underground. Stensen may invite them back for a demonstration, opening or other event connected to construction, while Daniel’s earlier contribution to the digger design gives him a natural reason to be there. Episode 9 could therefore bring them inside without immediately proving that either has joined Stensen’s inner circle.

Could Helen’s pregnancy change their decision?
Pregnancy is one of the strongest viewer theories, but it has not been officially confirmed by Apple. Promotional images appear to show Helen with a noticeably different appearance that fans have interpreted as pregnancy, and that would also imply a meaningful jump forward in the Before Times story. If she is expecting a child, Daniel and Helen may begin looking at Stensen’s survival project differently.
That would not necessarily mean they suddenly trust Stensen. Their objection in Episode 8 is moral as much as practical, and becoming parents would not erase what they already know about the people behind the project. It could, however, make the question more difficult because they would no longer be deciding only what risks they are prepared to take for themselves.
Episode 9 may contain a major time jump
A time jump would solve several of the apparent contradictions at once. Episode 8 ends with Daniel and Helen beginning a romantic relationship, while Episode 9 promotional material has led viewers to notice what appears to be a wedding ring on Daniel’s hand. If those clues are accurate, “Farewell” may move the Before Times story forward much faster than the previous episodes have.
That would also explain why Apple describes their next appearance so vaguely. Calling it a “special event” avoids revealing whether they are attending a silo demonstration, an official opening or something tied to their own personal lives. The episode could reveal several changes at once without contradicting their earlier refusal.
Have Daniel and Helen joined the silo project?
There is currently no confirmation that they have. The strongest evidence only tells us that Daniel and Helen will be together at a significant event in Episode 9, while promotional material suggests the silos themselves may be involved. Anything beyond that remains interpretation until “Farewell” airs.
What makes the story interesting is that Episode 8 deliberately leaves them outside the project. If Episode 9 really does put them inside Silo 18, the important question will not simply be how they got there, but what happened between those two moments that made them willing to return. That missing piece may be one of the biggest Before Times reveals left before the Season 3 finale.
