Ryan Pulls Away From Cuba Just Days Before Their Love Is Blind UK Wedding

Cuba and Ryan never make it to the altar on Love Is Blind: UK Season 3. Their engagement ends shortly before the wedding after Cuba forces an increasingly distant Ryan to be honest about whether he still wants the future they had planned in the pods. Ryan eventually admits that his feelings are no longer certain enough for him to continue toward marriage.

The breakup is not caused by one explosive incident. Work repeatedly takes Ryan away during the most important weeks of the experiment, his grandmother becomes ill, and Cuba starts feeling that she is fighting for a relationship Ryan is no longer actively participating in. By the time they finally confront the problem, the spiritual “soul connection” that initially brought them together has been replaced by a much more basic question: does Ryan actually want to stay?

Ryan and Cuba looked unusually compatible in the pods

Cuba and Ryan’s relationship initially seemed built on more than attraction. Both described themselves as spiritual, enjoyed traveling and talked about a future involving marriage, children and an unconventional lifestyle.

Ryan also opened up about losing his father when he was young, while Cuba appeared comfortable having the deeper conversations he wanted. They described their connection in unusually certain terms and exchanged “I love yous” before becoming engaged.

The physical reveal did not immediately undermine that confidence. In Ibiza, they continued exploring the spiritual interests that had brought them together, including ecstatic dancing and a sound bath. Unlike some of the season’s other couples, they did not have a major pod triangle following them into the retreat. Their problems appeared when the experiment became ordinary life.

Why did Ryan become distant from Cuba?

Ryan’s work required significant travel, something that had already complicated his dating life before Love Is Blind. Once he and Cuba began living together, those absences suddenly mattered much more.

They had only weeks to determine whether they should marry. Cuba wanted intentional time together and more romance, but Ryan was frequently traveling or exhausted after returning.

By Episode 7, she was no longer simply complaining that they did not have enough dates. She felt Ryan was not emotionally present even when he was physically around.

Then Ryan’s grandmother became ill, requiring him to step away again. Cuba tried to support him rather than make his family situation about their relationship, but the interruption left them with even less time to repair what had already started deteriorating. The illness explains part of Ryan’s absence. It does not, however, fully explain their breakup.

Cuba realizes Ryan may not want marriage anymore

When Ryan returns, Cuba asks him to be direct about what he is feeling. Initially, he says that everything happening around him has prevented him from properly focusing on their relationship. Cuba senses something more fundamental. She believes Ryan is struggling with the idea of giving up the independence he enjoyed before entering the experiment.

More importantly, she tells him that she has been making an effort to save the engagement without receiving the same effort back.

That conversation effectively removes the remaining ambiguity. After taking some time to think, Ryan admits that he cannot say with certainty that his feelings are strong enough to justify continuing toward the wedding. Once he says that, the engagement is effectively over.

Why did Cuba and Ryan break up?

Ryan and Cuba break up because Ryan is no longer certain enough about their relationship to marry Cuba.

His travel schedule and family emergency put enormous pressure on them, but Netflix’s finale does not present either as the single reason for the split. Ryan’s eventual admission is about his feelings.

Cuba had entered the experiment looking specifically for someone prepared for love and marriage. Continuing with a man who could not confidently say he wanted either would have meant ignoring the answer she had finally pushed him to give.

Ryan decides it would be wrong to keep moving toward a wedding while feeling uncertain.

Cuba is devastated, particularly because she feels he is completely different from the man who spoke so confidently about their future in the pods.

What’s with Ryan offering Cuba mango after the breakup?

Then comes the detail viewers immediately latched onto. After an intensely emotional conversation in which Cuba is visibly hurt, Ryan casually asks whether she wants some mango before eating it himself.

There is no hidden significance to the mango established by the show. It is memorable because of the extraordinary tonal contrast between Cuba’s heartbreak and Ryan’s matter-of-fact behavior immediately afterward.

The moment has already become one of the finale’s most discussed scenes online. Viewers are reacting less to the fruit itself than to what they perceive as Ryan’s lack of visible emotion after ending an engagement.

It should not, however, be used as proof that Ryan never cared about Cuba. Editing and individual reactions to stressful conversations can make emotional behavior difficult to judge from a few minutes of television. What can be said is that the scene makes an already uncomfortable breakup feel even colder.

Did Cuba and Ryan get married?

No. Unlike Sophie and Taylor, Francesca and Joseph, Ciara and Ajay, and Faye and Jack, Cuba and Ryan do not reach a wedding ceremony.

Their relationship ends before the altar, making them the second Season 3 engagement to collapse before the weddings after Yasmin and Jordan.

The reunion on August 30 may clarify what happened once filming stopped and how both now view the breakup. For the finale itself, however, there is little uncertainty left. Cuba was still trying to save the relationship when she asked Ryan for the truth. Ryan’s answer was that he could no longer confidently promise her the marriage she wanted.
