‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ is a sequel to the 2021 film ‘Godzilla vs. Kong.’ The fifth movie in the MonsterVerse series.

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was mostly made in Queensland, Australia. However, parts were also shot in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Cairo, Egypt, Hong Kong, and Mexico. They began making the exciting action movie at the end of July 2022 and were done by November of that same year, six months after they started.
Queensland, Australia
Queensland, Australia, in the northeast of the country, is where a lot of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was filmed. The City of Gold Coast was used for a lot of filming. In Surfers Paradise, a suburb of the Gold Coast, they made it look like Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Another suburb called Oxenford also had scenes for the monster movie. The cast and crew used Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford for filming.
Within this studio, there are twelve production rooms, nine sound stages, three water tanks, and areas for makeup, outfits, and woodworking. It’s a favorite for filmmakers because it has lots of useful stuff. Right next to it is Warner Bros. Movie World, also in Oxenford, which you might spot in a few scenes of the movie.
In addition, some important scenes were shot on Moreton Island, which is off the southeast coast of Queensland.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
There were some outdoor shots filmed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” Nearby sights may include Christ the Redeemer, Maracanã Stadium, the Museum of Tomorrow, and the Sugarloaf Cable Car. Dan Stevens talked about his experience using special effects in the movie. He said, “I’ve worked with CGI before, but nothing like ‘Godzilla x Kong.’ The action scenes and imagination are huge. It was easier because I was with experienced people and led by Adam Wingard, who knows this world well. He inspired everyone with his energy and fun attitude.”
Cairo, Egypt
Some of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was filmed in Cairo, Egypt. Near the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is one of the oldest wonders of the ancient world, they filmed exciting scenes.
They also shot in other places around the world. Some scenes were shot in Hong Kong, China. They also used real Mexican streets and cities to film the scenes set in Mexico.
Who is in the Cast?
- Rebecca Hall, plays Dr. Ilene Andrews in the film who made her first TV appearance in 1992 on a show called The Camomile Lawn. She was only 10 years old at the time. Later, in 2002, she made her stage debut in her dad’s play “Mrs. Warren’s Profession.” For her part in that play, she won an award.
- Brian Tyree Henry co-stars as Bernie Hayes. He became well-known for his part as rapper Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles on the TV show Atlanta (2016–2022). He got nominated for a big award called the Primetime Emmy Award for being really good in that role.
- Dan Stevens as Trapper. He became famous worldwide for playing Matthew Crawley in the hit TV show Downton Abbey from 2010 to 2012.
- Other cast includes Kaylee Hottle as Jia, Alex Ferns as Mikael, Fala Chen as Iwi Queen, and Rachel House as Hampton.
Where Can I Watch ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’?
Godzilla and Kong’s new movie, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” first showed at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on March 25, 2024. It came out worldwide two days after that. Warner Bros. Pictures is stated to release it in the United States on March 29, 2024.
OTT Streaming Date: The exact date for when the movie can be streamed has not been set yet. News sources say that since Warner Bros. is involved, it could come to HBO Max around July 2024.
