John Wick: Chapter 4, a 2023 American neo-noir action thriller directed by Chad Stahelski and penned by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, continues the saga of the titular character portrayed by Keanu Reeves. Joining Reeves are Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, and Ian McShane, reprising their roles from John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019).
Plot:
In the concrete jungle of New York City, John Wick plans his retaliation against the High Table while lying low with the Bowery King. Venturing to Morocco, he eliminates the Elder, the High Table’s top authority. This bold act prompts Marquis Vincent de Gramont, a High Table member, to summon Winston, the manager of the New York Continental hotel, and his aide, Charon.
Marquis, armed with extensive resources, seeks to hunt down and eliminate John, expressing disappointment in Winston’s inability to take out the skilled assassin. As punishment, Marquis strips Winston of his managerial duties, labels him “excommunicado,” destroys the Continental, and executes Charon. He then recruits Caine, a retired High Table assassin, to target John, leveraging Caine’s daughter’s life as leverage.
Seeking sanctuary, John finds refuge at the Osaka Continental, managed by his ally Shimazu Koji. However, trouble follows when Marquis’ enforcer Chidi, along with High Table assassins and Caine, arrives to probe the hotel. With quick thinking, Akira, Shimazu’s daughter and the hotel’s concierge, evacuates the premises just before the High Table launches an assault, plunging the location into chaos.
Amidst the chaos, John battles through hordes of armored adversaries, facing off against Caine until they are interrupted by a mysterious figure known as “Mr. Nobody.” Offering assistance, Mr. Nobody aids John’s escape, deeming the bounty on John insufficient. Reluctantly, Caine allows a wounded Akira to flee after a tense confrontation.
