Kim Kardashian has kept a tight grip over her image since she rose to popularity in 2007.

It seems that no matter how wealthy, famous, or successful Kim is, she was always acutely aware of how her admirers saw her and her family and would make whatever necessary adjustments to remain in their good graces.

However, in 2022, we saw Kim‘s meticulously cultivated public image disintegrate in her worst PR year yet as she seemed to lose touch with reality in a series of out-of-character gaffes.

Despite winning over critics with her handling of her ex-online husband’s outbursts, Kim is closing out 2022 with even her most committed followers shutting off her reality show and calling her out for her troublesome conduct.

Kim‘s ex Kanye West, now known as Ye, relentlessly attacked her and her then-boyfriend Pete Davidson on social media.

Throughout January, February, and March, Ye took public aim at Kim‘s parenting and left her fearful for Pete’s safety.

This wasn’t the first time Ye courted trouble, and Kim has always managed to address his conduct on Keeping Up while keeping the full depth of the mess hidden.

In 2022, Kim‘s cool public image collapsed. Ye’s activities grew out of control, prompting her to reply on Instagram and in comments on his photos.

Despite this being a difficult moment for Kim, she won admiration for the “dignified” way she handled Ye’s criticisms.

Kim‘s public image peaked around this time, with admirers and enemies equally praising her.

However, in March of 2022, Kim managed to lose some people’s respect just as soon as she had acquired it, due to a disastrous interview with Variety magazine that signaled the beginning of her decline.

In the now-infamous feature, Kim said, “I have the best advice for women in business. Get your fucking ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.”

This video quickly went viral, with many questioning why Kim turned on one of her largest fan groups.

Despite seeing the backlash in real-time, Kim refused to check her privilege and was filmed telling Khloé Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, “People don’t know the story of your dad and Mom having to sell their house in Hidden Hills because they couldn’t afford it and they had to move to an apartment.”

Kim‘s “irresponsible” weight reduction became evident when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 dress to the Met Gala and described how she lost a lot of weight in three weeks to fit it.

Fans, other celebrities, and even dieticians deemed Kim‘s statements “triggering” and “dangerous”

Despite pleas for Kim to be more cognizant of her big platform of impressionable youth, she continued to brag about losing weight following the event.

Later, Kim was caught photoshopping an Instagram image to lessen the size of her neck and shoulders.

Kim also courted criticism by connection with Balenciaga’s 2023 spring/summer campaign.

In a picture session last month, two young toddlers posed with teddy bears wearing BDSM-style restraints. Legal papers referencing “child porn” were props.

As one of Balenciaga’s most famous faces, Kim was urged to speak on the incident.

Kim said she was “shaken” by the “disturbing images,” and appreciated Balenciaga’s “removal of the campaigns and apology.”
