President Curtis Episode 6 strongly gives us a possible explanation for Banks contracting malware in Episode 7, but the connection has not been confirmed yet. While trying to hack the Archian harvester in Hollow, Banks deliberately alters the way her computer brain processes information. She lowers her skepticism, increases her adaptability and removes the mental barriers preventing her from understanding an alien culture. Minutes later, she says she has opened her mind to the Archians and “absorbed it all.” The official synopsis for Episode 7, Ghosts, says Banks contracts malware and O’Doyle must enter her computer brain to find a fix. The timing makes an Archian connection plausible, although Episode 7 could still reveal an unrelated source.
What does Banks do to her brain in Episode 6?
Banks modifies her own mental settings because ordinary hacking cannot make sense of the Archians’ alien code. When Curtis asks whether she can simply think like them, Banks proposes reducing skepticism and boosting adaptability. The idea is to remove every barrier preventing her from understanding an unfamiliar culture. She even acknowledges that doing so will leave her mind open to practically anything.
That wording matters more after learning what happens next week. Banks isn’t simply translating a language or running a conventional software program. She changes how her cybernetic mind evaluates information before exposing herself to an unknown alien system. Episode 6 itself flags the process as potentially dangerous before Banks goes ahead with it.
Does Banks actually connect with Archian technology?
Yes. Whatever Banks does works well enough for her to understand the Archians from inside their own cultural framework. She infiltrates their ship and speaks their language to a surprised Archian, explaining that she has opened her mind to their culture and absorbed it. The transformation goes beyond language because Banks begins behaving more like the Archians themselves. She later jokingly describes the process as having gone “full Archian.”
Her access also gives Curtis the information needed to defeat them. Banks discovers a small thermal vent leading to the harvester’s engine core and determines that destroying the core can bring down the machine. That means she has gained a deep enough understanding of the alien system to locate a critical technical vulnerability. The hack saves the day, but Episode 6 never shows Banks performing any obvious security cleanup afterward.
Why could that cause the malware in Episode 7?
The strongest clue is the sequence of events rather than an explicit infection scene. Banks intentionally makes herself less skeptical, makes herself more receptive to unfamiliar information, enters an alien code base and absorbs Archian culture. The next published story involving her centers on malware inside her computer brain. Those ideas fit together unusually well.

There is also a thematic connection. Banks’ strength is normally that her artificial mind can rapidly process information while maintaining control over what enters her system. In Hollow, she temporarily weakens those filters because being too resistant prevents her from understanding the Archians. If malicious code entered at the same time, she may have unknowingly created the perfect conditions for it.
That remains interpretation rather than confirmed plot information. Episode 6 never shows a malware warning, suspicious download or Archian deliberately planting a virus. Banks is functioning normally again during the AI porn tax announcement at the end of the episode. Whatever happens to her in Ghosts may therefore involve a delayed problem rather than an immediately visible infection.
What do we know about President Curtis Episode 7?
Episode 7 is titled Ghosts, and its published synopsis confirms that Banks contracts malware. O’Doyle apparently enters her computer brain in an attempt to find a solution. The other half of the episode involves Curtis and the ghost of President Abraham Lincoln, so Banks’ problem is substantial enough to become one of the episode’s two main storylines.
Crucially, the synopsis does not identify where the malware comes from. It does not mention the Archians, Hollow Earth, Cantgetium or Banks’ Episode 6 hack. There is therefore no basis yet for saying that an Archian infection is confirmed. Episode 7 could reveal that Banks picked up malicious code somewhere else entirely.
Could the malware be unrelated to the Archians?
Absolutely. President Curtis is an episodic science-fiction comedy, and Episode 7 could introduce a completely new cyber threat without requiring a direct continuation from Hollow. Banks is a computer-based character who regularly interacts with strange technology, making malware a natural premise even without the Archians. The episode title Ghosts could also point toward a different kind of digital or supernatural problem.
The strongest reason to connect the episodes is how specifically Hollow emphasizes Banks opening her mind. The writers could have solved the Archian hack simply by having her break into their network, yet the episode spends time explaining that she has altered her skepticism, adaptability and cultural barriers. That setup feels unusually relevant immediately before an episode in which something unwanted enters her computer brain. It is still possible that this is coincidence, but it is a much stronger clue than a generic hacking scene would have been.
Would an Archian infection explain why O’Doyle enters Banks’ brain?
Potentially, because O’Doyle may need to deal with something Banks cannot safely isolate herself. Episode 6 also gives the two characters another emotional beat through O’Doyle’s conflict with Janice, although it doesn’t directly explain why he would be the person entering Banks’ system. Ghosts may use the computer-brain premise to explore O’Doyle in a completely different environment. Until the episode airs, anything beyond the synopsis is speculative.
The Archian theory is therefore best treated as a setup possibility, not an Episode 6 reveal. We know Banks deliberately made her mind unusually receptive to alien information, absorbed Archian culture and accessed their technology. We also know her very next episode involves malware severe enough for O’Doyle to enter her computer brain. If Ghosts reveals that Banks brought something back from the Archian system, Hollow will have hidden the cause of Episode 7’s crisis directly inside the solution to Episode 6’s crisis.
