Catherine Shoots Marshall in Furious Episode 6, But Is He Actually Dead?

Marshall’s attack on Alice produces the most immediate life-or-death question in Furious Episode 6, but the episode stops short of giving viewers a body. No, Marshall is not confirmed dead after Catherine shoots him. He falls after a single gunshot and is clearly injured, but he can still be heard groaning and gasping several seconds later. Furious then leaves Alice, Catherine and Marshall behind and moves into its final evidence reveal without showing what happens to him next. Unless a later episode confirms his death, the accurate answer after Episode 6 is that Marshall has been shot and may be critically wounded, but he is still alive in his final on-screen moment.
Spoiler Alert
What exactly happens when Marshall finds Alice?
Marshall attacks Alice almost immediately once he reaches her. Alice is still inside the shelter with Catherine when she realizes something has gone wrong with the operation outside. Nora had arranged for agents to cover the building, but Ed George’s interference leaves Alice in a much more exposed position than she expected.
The episode does not clearly explain in this scene exactly how Marshall locates her, so it would be speculation to manufacture a detailed route for him. What matters is what happens once he arrives. Marshall grabs Alice, physically overpowers her and angrily tells her that she is responsible for what has happened to him.
This is not presented as an ordinary argument between ex-partners. Alice is struggling and screaming while Marshall threatens her, making the danger immediate before Catherine steps in.
Why is Marshall so violent toward Alice?
Marshall’s violence is part of an abusive history that Episode 6 has already made explicit. Earlier, Alice tells Catherine that her ex-boyfriend beat her and that he was a police officer. Catherine asks whether Alice ever gave a statement or whether Marshall went to jail, and Alice admits that she did not pursue it.
Her explanation is brutally ordinary. She was afraid of making him angrier, afraid people would see her as weak, and ultimately did not believe using the system would necessarily protect her. Catherine recognizes that failure immediately because her own worldview has been built around the belief that legal systems repeatedly fail women who have been abused.
Marshall’s behavior elsewhere in the episode also shows that he is unstable. Another officer says Marshall was pulled over drunk the previous night and managed to talk his way out of trouble. By the time he reaches Alice at the shelter, his anger is no longer something the story keeps safely in her backstory.

Why does Catherine protect Alice from Marshall?
The immediate reason is simple: Catherine sees Marshall hurting Alice and tells him to stop. She has only recently learned that Marshall is the man Alice was talking about when she described being beaten by a police officer. Seeing him assault Alice confirms that part of Alice’s story in the most direct way possible.
There is also a deeper parallel, although Furious does not spell it out as a formal motive. Catherine’s killings have repeatedly been tied to men connected to exploitation and abuse, while Alice has spent years trying to survive abuse through institutions that did not give her the justice she wanted. Marshall suddenly becomes a living example of the kind of man Catherine has built her violent moral code around.
That does not make the shooting legally or morally simple. Catherine does not wait for Marshall to be arrested, and she does not merely threaten him until he backs away. She moves from intervention to lethal force in seconds.
The scene is therefore less about Catherine becoming Alice’s conventional protector and more about Alice experiencing Catherine’s version of protection firsthand.
Does Catherine shoot Marshall once or kill him outright?
Catherine fires a single shot in the scene shown in Episode 6. Marshall drops immediately, and the gun also hits the floor. The episode does not show Catherine firing again or approaching him to make certain that he is dead.
That detail matters because Furious has not staged Marshall’s apparent death like a definitive execution. After he falls, the subtitles continue to identify him as groaning. A little later, they specifically identify Marshall as gasping and groaning.
Those are direct signs of life after the gunshot. They do not guarantee that he survives the wound, because a critically injured person can remain conscious or continue breathing before dying. They do, however, make it inaccurate to say Episode 6 shows Catherine killing Marshall.
It shows Catherine shooting Marshall.
So is Marshall alive at the end of Episode 6?
At the last point when Episode 6 gives us information about his condition, yes. Marshall is audibly alive after being shot. What happens during the minutes after that is deliberately withheld because the episode cuts to Danny, Alden and the copied evidence from Jay Easton’s computer.
There is no paramedic scene. There is no hospital scene involving Marshall. Nobody announces that he has died, and the episode does not return to show his body.
The safest conclusion is therefore that Marshall’s status is unknown but alive when last observed. A later episode could reveal that he died from the wound, recovered from it or survived long enough to create another problem for Alice and Catherine. Episode 6 itself does not settle which outcome occurs.
That uncertainty is not a minor technicality. Marshall’s survival would leave a police officer who personally witnessed Catherine with Alice immediately after a shooting. His death would create an entirely different legal and investigative situation around the two women.
Was Catherine trying to kill Marshall?
The episode does not explicitly establish Catherine’s precise intention when she pulls the trigger. She asks Alice a provocative question about whether she wants Marshall killed, but the scene does not give Catherine a later explanation of whether she meant to kill him, stop him or both.
Given Catherine’s established willingness to use lethal violence, it would be reasonable to read the shot as potentially intended to be fatal. But that remains interpretation rather than something Episode 6 confirms. The physical result is all we can state with certainty: Marshall is shot, falls and remains alive immediately afterward.
It is also significant that Catherine acts after Marshall ignores her warning to leave Alice alone. The violence is not disconnected from the assault happening in front of her. Furious has deliberately spent the episode building intimacy between Catherine and Alice through their shared understanding of what male violence can do to a person’s life.
Marshall gives that conversation a body.

What does Marshall’s shooting change for Alice and Catherine?
The shooting permanently complicates the relationship that had just begun forming between them. Alice entered the shelter as an FBI agent trying to turn Catherine into a witness against Jay Easton. By the time Marshall appears, Catherine knows Alice’s real name, Alice knows far more about Isabel and Elena, and both women have begun discussing the possibility of working toward the same target.
Then Catherine does something Alice’s own system never managed to do: she physically stops Marshall from hurting her.
Furious is careful not to present that as uncomplicated justice. Catherine’s answer is a gunshot, not due process, and Alice is now standing beside the serial killer she was supposed to arrest while her abusive ex lies bleeding nearby. The episode puts Alice directly inside the moral contradiction she has been investigating from a distance all season.
For now, though, the central question has a much simpler answer. Marshall does not have a confirmed death scene in Furious Episode 6. Catherine shoots him, but his gasping and groaning prove that he is still alive when the episode last shows him. Anything beyond that belongs to Episode 7, not to the ending we have actually seen.
